Our Story

As high school students growing up in an immigrant community, we saw our families seek refuge in a country where the “American Dream” felt within reach. Today, the hope we once had has turned into paralyzing fear.

We see scared faces. We see families torn apart. We see people forced to live in uncertainty about what their future holds.

We deserve better than to live in a country where your neighbor or your mother could be taken at any given minute.

That spark turned into La Llama. We started this project to carry even a small part of the weight immigrant families bear every day. We strive to bring support, clarity, and light to a community that deserves to feel safe again.

Meet the Team

  • Violeta Ospina

    SHE/HER/HERS

    Ospina is from Cali, Colombia, and she directs the media branch section of the project. She oversees the blogs and posts written, and makes sure we provide you with accurate information.

  • Daniel Amador

    HE/HIM/HIS

    Originally from Panama City, Panama, Amador directs the donations sector within the project. He ensures that events are arranged, donations are received, and families are helped.

  • Camila Morata

    SHE/HER/HERS

    From Camagüey, Cuba, Morata is part of the donation branch and in charge of keeping count of donations and organizing items. She registers who donates, what they donated, and where it goes.

  • Christopher Reverón

    HE/HIM/HIS

    Born in Isla Margarita, Venezuela, Reverón works on the social media side of the project as the social media manager. Within the project, he checks everything the designers are working on to later post it on social media.

  • Sofia Elias

    SHE/HER/ANY

    Born in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic, Elias is in charge of designing for La Llama and offering artistic support and ideas.

  • Carla Rodriguez

    SHE/HER/THEIRS

    Originally from Santiago de Cuba, Cuba, Rodriguez is in charge of contacting and securing the funding to be able to run La Llama and its mission in helping families and our South Florida community that had been impacted by ICE.

  • Milena Richiez

    SHE/HER/HERS

    Hailing from Miami, Florida, Richiez coordinates upcoming events to promote and spread awareness of the project amongst our community as well as making connections with other platforms. Altogether, Richiez’s goal is to ensure smooth operations that become memorable experiences while still educating others on the club’s purpose.

  • Patricia López

    SHE/HER/HERS

    Originally from Maracaibo, Venezuela, López is in charge of designing and illustrating features for La Llama and helping with the project’s advertising.
